Mission:
To promote research and the scientific training in biomedicine, with a high commitment for stimulating the research translation of the technological transfer, products and innovations for the health, specially with the therapeutical approximations development against pathogenic processes associated with aging and chronic diseases.
Vission:
To be an excellence research center and academic formation with international presence, distinguished by the quality of its works and for establishing important alliances with the business world and other health and research centers through the transference of scientific advances, becoming a positive contribution for the society with a high commitment within the community and its members.
Objetives:
Short term
- To strengthen the scientific evidence that support our innovative therapeutic approaches, and as a consequence to file related patents for Alzheimer (within the first two years)
- To improve the strategies for gathering resources from pharmaceutical industries and other business agencies. This will implicate an expansion of our recently created Business Office and a more professionally designed diffusion of the CAR's activities, aimed to increase its visibility and its marketing of the resulting products and inventions
- To support less developed scientific groups, through activities detailed below (Faculty of Health Science from the University of Antofagasta located in the north mining industrial region)
- To scale up the national and international network of collaborations and scientific and technological interactions; 5) Nomination of National and International Advisory boards, which should include well recognized scientists of basic research and of technological innovation.
Mid term
- To increase scientific data supporting innovative therapeutic approaches and to file patents on drugs for Cancer and Fibrosis (during the third year). Translational results derived from Regeneration and Stem Cell program will require more time (4-5 years)
- To publish at least three new Books in areas such as Addiction, Muscle Differentiation, and Development
- To organize a Symposia and an International Workshop during the first three years
- To integrate three new young scientific members, experts in Stem Cells, Regeneration and Neurology, respectively
- To implement a program of working periods of PhDs in pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies, thus fostering the demand for our PhDs.
Long term
- To produce the best biomedical science as possible in our environment, to become more competitive in translational research in Biomedical Research
- To increase human resources of excellence for science and technology in the country
- To improve the economic competitiveness of the country innovating in Biomedical applications
- To contribute to increase the scientific literacy of the Chilean society, through disseminating activities such as Books of public interest, Public Conferences and advising School Teachers
- To transfer the results (products) of the research activities, such as new drugs and treatments to the Chilean Society and the world.
