Center for Aging and Regeneration (CARE)

Investigation and innovation for a better quality of life. When the Aging and Regeneration Centre (CARE) was created at the beginning of 2008, with the support of the Basal Financing Program for Excellence Scientific and Technological Centres, we did it with the commitment of performing a work whose last purpose was to improve the people's quality of life.

Under this idea the CARE was born as an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to the basic and applied research in biomedicine, specialized in ageing degenerative pathologies. These pathologies include Alzheimer's disease, Muscular and Renal Fibrosis, Cancer, Diabetes. The CARE also studies the basic processes of the damaged tissues regeneration.

The CARE represents the natural continuation of the work successfully realized during almost a decade by the Cellular Regulation and Pathology Centre "Joaquín V. Luco" (CRCP). The achievements of the CRCP have placed us in a distinguished spot in the national and international scientific occupation. Today this centre takes on the study of the diseases associated with the aging processes as a priority that cannot be postponed, considering the major life expectations. We must worry at different levels for a population that increasingly ages.

Our Centre benefits from the academic activity of the Catholic Pontifical University of Chile, including the Biological Sciences Faculty and the Medicine Faculty. This translates in an intense multidisciplinary cooperation between scientists and clinical doctors. Its results can be estimated in a high number of scientific publications magazines, the insertion of new doctors in different academic and business institutions, and in the establishment of strategic alliances with prestigious in and outside the country institutions.

In the CARE we are highly committed with an excellence scientific activity development. Simultaneously, it's worried about providing advanced training to the new scientists generations qualifying them to face the international competition's hard requirements. Framed in this double intention, the CARE tries to take advantage of its researche's results prosecuting them towards the development of strategies and innovative products in health areas that have high social and economic impact. Hereby the CARE encourages the technological transfer and Chile's economic competitiveness, expecting to improve the life quality of people.
