In the last two decades, biomedicine has contributed to the social and economic development of most of the industrialized countries, for what it's indicated as an important tool for progress. Today it's a fact the positive impact that has the increase in scientific and technological innovation, for the competitiveness of the national economy.
Its great applications variety, which goes from the diagnostic technologies generation up to the discovery of new medicaments, is translated in a wide business range that brings social advantages and improvement of the population's life quality.
The commercial opening that Chile has lived in the last years has extended the possibilities of establishing relations, which benefit the technological transfer and the creation of new business with research centres and international companies, the scientific community and the national domestic. These alliances are fundamental to stimulate the development of the biotechnological industry.
Our country relies on a solid scientists and innovators community that develop international level research lines and that places Chile in the first place of per-capita of scientific articles productivity in Latin America, an emergent small biotechnology enterprises core, public institutions and a regulative system that enjoys international prestige.
Aware of this reality, the CARE has established as one of its main goals constructing contact networks and to promote strategic alliances and in this line, already have established relationships with important centres and international biotechnological companies as the Weis Centre for Research and the Geisinger Clinic, Danville, PA; Cornell Medical College, New York; Technion, Haifa, Israel, Harvard University, Boston; University of California, San Diego, CA and the University of Washington, Seattle.
